Martin Scorcese’s original uncut Casino Street

On a forthcoming Blu-Ray release of Martin Scorcese’s “Casino” he’s included an early version of the movie from when it was originally titled: “Casino Street”. Apparently the version was shelved due to an outcry from parents loathe to see Sesame Street regulars Bert and Ernie in their first adult role.

The two regulars were devastated at the collapse of their long planned move into serious drama; Ernie was driven to alcohol and Bert’s very public suicide is a sad footnote to the story. Most people agree, however, that their talent in the roles far outshines that of De Niro and Pesci (in the commentary track, Scorcese tells how Ernie’s ‘head tapping’ ending to this scene was completely adlibbed and added a chilling menace that makes De Niro and Pesci’s version look like a family drama.)
